Dreambert and Bedsmith, two creatures of the Pi’illo species, wake up one morning with no memory of who they are, where they are, or how they got there. They find themselves in a strange house in an unfamiliar town, feeling lost and confused. Just as panic sets in, a strange man named Wonky appears, claiming to be their father. He suggests that they must have passed out while watching television the night before, but before they can explain any further, the situation gets even stranger. A creature named Starlow, of the Star Sprite species, arrives, insisting that she is their friend. She says that they had plans to leave, but Dreambert and Bedsmith have no memory of her or any such plans. Reluctantly, they follow Starlow outside, unsure of their surroundings. They wander around the city, acting as if they don’t recognize either their surroundings or Starlow. Despite their confusion, Starlow continues to interact with them as if they were longtime friends. As he shows them around, Starlow patiently explains their supposed friendship and their names, trying to reassure them. Dreambert and Bedsmith, however, remain disoriented and unable to make sense of their past or their connection to Starlow. As the day progresses, Starlow becomes more concerned, initially thinking that they are just pretending to forget. But as his strange behavior persists, she begins to worry that something is wrong with his memories. By the end of the day, Starlow’s uncertainty deepens, and she wonders if there is something more behind her forgetfulness. Dreambert and Bedsmith are sent back to the house they first woke up in, and Wonky – still claiming to be their father – offers them an unfamiliar-looking bed. Too tired and confused to protest, they settle in for the night. As they fall asleep, their minds are filled with questions about their identities, their pasts, and the cause of their sudden amnesia. The mystery of their lost memories remains unanswered as they fall into a restless sleep, unsure of what the future holds.
